After more than 10 years in Slovenia, here are my best photos.
I can now say that the Slovenian winter can be broken down into three parts. Firstly, December, an incredibly festive cold month with the Ljubljana Christmas market where the festivities are in full swing every evening and the beautiful Christmas decorations in Ljubljana. The month of December is eagerly awaited by Slovenians. The snow may already be in the mountains, or it may be a long time coming.
January and February are the coldest months. The weather in Ljubljana tends to be grey. These are the months when it can snow at low altitudes, in which case the cold weather means that the snow lasts throughout the country in the weeks that follow. Slovenia, all in white, is beautiful. This is the height of the skiing and spa season .
Then, around mid-March, some very fine days arrive, very bright, temperatures rise and the terraces of Ljubljana fill up. The Slovenian coast is already enjoying some very fine days, but there is still snow in the mountains. It’s a fabulous time of year for mid-altitude hikes in the snow. I strongly recommend that you spend a day in Slovenia towards the end of March.
Here are some of the best photos I’ve taken here over the winters I’ve spent in Slovenia.
