Here are my top 3 places to eat quickly and really cheaply in Ljubljana.
Slovenia isn’t exactly a cheap eastern country, but if you know the right places to eat, you can eat well in Ljubljana for three euros. Here are my top budget restaurants in the Slovenian capital.
Dvor pizzeria in Ljubljana
To take advantage of this low price, you need to go to the kiosk opposite the entrance to the pizzeria, on the other side of the building. For just €2.50 a slice, you can sit on the terrace on beautiful wooden tables right in the heart of the centre. A slice of pizza usually makes you hungrier, as the portions at Dvor’s are generous.
At this price, the offer is unbeatable in the centre of Ljubljana, and what’s more, you’ll be sitting comfortably on the terrace!
Tip: If you’re with the family, I’d advise you not to order a huge family pizza to share from the kiosk on the restaurant terrace. It’s a great cheap family meal, and the pizza always makes a big impression when it arrives!
Right next to Pizzeria Dvor, you’ll see a small Mercator mini-market and there’s a LIDL hidden away at the top of the main square. At the end of the meal, you can buy fruit, delicious 0.5l liquid Slovenian yoghurts and drinks.
Tip : Take a seat in the shade of the trees on the benches in the main square.
Extra ice cream: Even better, treat yourself to a €3 ice cream on the terrace at Cacao, Fétiche or Vigo.

A cheapburek in Ljubljana
In Ljubljana, you’ll find burek in stalls selling kebabs. Burek is a type of puff pastry, rolled out and filled with cheese, meat or spinach. A burek costs 3 euros and feeds you for the day (and the three days that follow). It’s not a refined dish, but it’s worth discovering in Rue Miklosiceva, which links the central square of Preseren to Ljubljana railway station.
Once you’ve got your burek in hand, go and enjoy it along the river at the following address(Petkovškovo nabrežje 17).
Serve it with a large plain liquid yoghurt , as is customary in Slovenia, or a delicious fresh cloudy apple juice from the vending machine on the market square (€1.80 per litre – unbeatable).
In the evening: Burek can also be eaten in the middle of the night. Young Ljubljaners flock to the clubs at 1 or 4am to buy a burek.

Ljubljana’s maxi market supermarket
To take advantage of it, you have to go to the basement of Maximarket to get to the food section of the shop (Make sure you enter the Maximarket supermarket. This is not the Parma pizzeria at the entrance). For around €3, you’ll get a quarter of a pizza just out of the oven, with a good cheese topping, a canned drink at 0.55 cents, a small salad and a piece of fruit, and you’ve got a complete and almost balanced meal.
Where to sit? Soak up the sun on Trg Republike ‘s esplanade or on the steps along the river (go to Breg) or have a picnic in Ljubljana’s huge Tivoli Park, just a 5-minute walk from maximarket.
