Here you’ll find nine websites that I use very regularly in Slovenia. They were recommended to me by my Slovenian friends, because everyone here visits these sites. They will be very useful during your trip to get around Slovenia, to park in Ljubljana or elsewhere, to find out exactly what the Slovenian weather is like, and so on.
These 9 websites will be very useful during your holiday
Before you leave for Slovenia, bookmark these nine Slovenian websites. They’ll come in handy when you’re there.
The Slovenian weather website
The Slovenian weather website is more reliable than any other. In particular, it is more accurate than Google weather, which appears at the top of the results when you type “weather Ljubljana” or “weather Slovenia”. Slovenian meteorologists know their country and its climate much better than Google. You’ll find hour-by-hour forecasts, which are very useful here, as it rains quite often in summer.
Don’t worry about your stay, though: it rarely rains all day. You’ll have several hours’ windows between two showers, enough to do something without getting soaked. What’s more, there are plenty of incredible things to do underground.
This accurate Slovenian weather site will prevent you from ruining a whole day’s holiday because of one hour’s rain.
To navigate the site, you need to know two words. Danes means today and Jutri means tomorrow. To consult the forecasts, enter a town in the search rectangle on the right of the arso vreme site
Two websites for Slovenian buses and trains
There are two websites you need to know about. The ” Slovenian National Railways ” website provides timetables and prices for train journeys in Slovenia. The train is an efficient way of getting to the north of the country, Celje, Maribor and Zagreb. However, don’t take Slovenian trains to the sea or to Trieste (these trains are very slow).
Two websites that all Slovenians use
The other site that will be useful to you is that of the Ljubljana bus station. To navigate the site, you need to know that “Ljubljana avtobusna postaja” means bus station. This little piece of information will greatly simplify your search, because even if you use the English version of the site, there are still words in Slovenian.
Ljubljana’s Velibs are called Bicikelj
Ljubljana also has its own self-service bicycles. To ride one, you don’t need to register at the terminals. You first need to create an account on this website. If you are staying outside the old centre, these bicikelj are useful for getting to the centre of Ljubljana. However, you don’t need a bike to discover the old centre of Ljubljana.
Visit the centre of Ljubljana on foot, not by bike!
I do, however, highly recommend the bike ride around the huge Tivoli Park. This gentle ride will show you just how green and pleasant the Slovenian capital is on a daily basis. Hire a bike from the tourist office rather than a bicikel, as they are a bit heavy.
A site to avoid traffic jams on the Slovenian motorway
The good news is that Slovenian motorways are very inexpensive and will get you to the must-see attractions very quickly. That’s one of the great things about a holiday in Slovenia: it’s easy, fast and convenient to get around. What’s more, the views from the motorways are beautiful.
Be warned, though, that traffic jams can occur in summer.
The official website of the Slovenian motorway company will be very useful, with its real-time map and average journey times between towns. Look in the Times to travel rectangle.

Easy parking in Ljubljana
If you’re a motorist, this page of the official LPT website will also be useful, as it details all the available car parks with prices per hour and their addresses.
A site with car park addresses and prices
Fans of the P R concept will also find plenty of options. So this is the site for anyone wanting to park in the Slovenian capital.
An online Slovenian dictionary
There’s a free Slovenian dictionary on the web. It is offered online by Pons and will be useful if you need a specific word once you are in Slovenia. Check it out at this address.
There is also Deepl, an excellent online Slovenian translator. Use it.
Cultural events during your stay in Slovenia
Ljubljana is a small capital, but the number of events that take place here from May to September is astonishing. Every evening, all you have to do is go into town at around 8pm to discover a whole host of free concerts and shows. To find out what’s on in Ljubljana during your stay, use this site.
Also check out facebook events , which is often relevant.
